Fans of Iron Chef flock to sample Masaharu Morimoto's "spectacular" sushi and Japanese cuisine. Set in a futuristic space splashed with ever changing colors, the extremely high-end Sushi haven still sets standards for Japanese excellence in Center City. The chef's omakase tasting menu at $80 is seven courses of impeccably executed "drama" on a plate. Expensive for some, most find that it's worth every penny.
Asian
Stephen Starr brings another great Asian to Philadelphia with Morimoto, where great sushi is only half the story. The Japanese specialties are also "out of this world!"
Japanese
Masaharu Morimoto's "spectacular" sushi and Japanese cuisine are combined with stellar service and a fun, futuristic atmosphere to create an amazing dining experience.
Sushi
There is nothing quite like the atmosphere at the sushi bar at Morimoto's. It is an amazing performance to behold, and even more divine to indulge in the unforgettable flavors, textures and beautiful presentations that are unique to these masters of this amazing art form. Stephen Starr's teaming up with famed Chef Morimoto provides Philadelphia with one of the finest sushi bars the area has to offer. One would be hard pressed to find blow fish on many menus in the neighborhood and, if found, have the confidence to order it!
Appetizers
Multiple tartares are offered, tuna pizza, pastrami, sushi, sashimi, and on and on. The hamachi appetizer is perfectly balanced with citrus and jalapeƱos and will leave you wanting for more. There are definitely less expensive Japanese restaurants in town, but none with the flair or flavor that this hot spot delivers.
Business Lunch
With lower decibel levels and smaller crowds at lunchtime, Stephen Starr's Japanese hot spot makes for an impressive venue to take clients, especially those familiar with the celebrity of Masaharu Morimoto. Known by most for his participation in The Food Network's Iron Chef, Morimoto doesn't spend as much time as he once did in this space, but his talented staff continues the tradition of spectacular sushi, Japanese cuisine and knowledgeable, impeccable service. An expense account would make this an even more appealing option!
Celebrity Chefs
As perhaps our most recognizable chef, Masaharu Morimoto pleases the masses with expertly created "masterpieces" delivered in a modern, colorful setting. Since teaming with Stephen Starr in 2001, Morimoto has continued to set the standard for Japanese cuisine in Center City. Although there is still a chance of catching a glimpse of the Iron Chef, regulars complain that he has been MIA since opening his Manhattan location.
Contemporary
"Amazing" Japanese cuisine is served to "beautiful people" in this ultra-modern "fantasyland" on Chestnut Street in Center City. Picture a "sexy" space with phallic shaped lighting set on
white booths, bathed in pink light. No, blue light. Oh, no, green light. As diners savor "explosive" flavors, the interior lights in the seating gradually change colors.
Private Rooms
Starr Restaurant Group includes some of the city's trendiest and respected venues. Although it is often difficult to score a reservation at some of these "hot spots," and many grow weary waiting for tables at others, that does not mean the atmosphere and flavors are impossible to experience for your large or small group. Unknown to many, popular spots like Morimoto,
Buddakan, Alma de Cuba and others offer catering services and private rooms for your next party.
Special Occasion
The chef's omakase tasting menu at $80 is seven courses of impeccably executed "drama" on a plate. Expensive for some, but most find that it's worth every penny, especially for that special occasion.
Trendy
It's not just the restaurant and food that's beautiful at Stephen Starr's Japanese hot spot, the crowd is as well. Still going strong since Iron Chef, Masaharu Morimoto came to town in 2001, this dramatic space in Center City East continues to draw a power crowd of locals and visitors from all over the country. Although one of Philadelphia's pricier restaurants, with spectacular sushi, a hip lounge and a "sexy" vibe, people of all ages "love" Morimoto.
Tuna
Morimoto certainly sets the standard for spectacular sushi and Japanese cuisine in Philadelphia. In this "space age" style dining room, the tuna lovers' dreams come true in many forms on celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto's menu.
Visitors with Expense Account
Known by most for his participation in The Food Network's Iron Chef, the "sushi king" doesn't spend as much time as he once did in this "extraordinary" space, but his talented staff continues the tradition of spectacular sushi, Japanese cuisine and knowledgeable, impeccable service. An expense account would make this an even more appealing option!
