Small Plates
Trendy

Mega-Mexican fun house, Distrito, offers small plates, Mexican style. From Mexican "standards," such as great guacamole, to innovative dishes such as Huarches, similar to flatbreads, made with corn flour and prepared in three variations, including one made with earthy trumpet mushrooms with black truffles, cheeses, and a white sauce of Mexican corn and truffle. The intensity of flavor in the queso fundido with duck is such that the "small plate" concept does not do it justice, so if dining with more than two people, there may be a reorder required. Ceviches of tuna, lobster, octopus and shrimp are so fresh and flavors so "thrilling," they leave you wanting "one more bite." These plates are served in an energetic environment of a two level, colorful, noisy "fun-house," where a VW bug is used as a table for four in the window on the first level and Nacho Libre is always playing on the wide screen upstairs. The food is great and the mood is "happy."

Mexican
Not your traditional Mexican restaurant. Distrito's cuisine is innovative and delicious, while still keeping with Mexican traditions, but offering lots more than the typical menu.
Appetizers
While it is true that Jose Garces serves "addictive" guacamole and chips, and queso fundido served with mini tortillas and made with duck, which is then slow cooked until it is so tender it is falling apart and is "to die for" good, it's his lighter appetizers that are the real winners here. The ceviches are bursting with flavors brought by citrus fruits, fresh seafood, and herbs and then, most importantly, perfectly executed. The combinations of flavors are incredible. The Hamachi is paired with a habanero orange sauce, subtly flavored with mint and topped with a sangrita sorbet. Distrito is a "fun" place to have a few "amazing" margaritas and enjoy some well prepared "snacks."
Child Friendly
What restaurant could bring a smile to a child's face more than Distrito. The colors are vibrant and the decor is playful!
Cocktails
The bartenders mix up some pretty exceptional cocktails. There are over 70 varieties of tequilas to choose from and the margaritas do not disappoint! Each night there are fresh fruit varieties on the specials menu that range from grapefruit, pineapple, and mango, to passion fruit. Also, try one of the Mexican beers, locally brewed craft beers, or a spicy "Michelada" style beer. In addition to the double-decker dining room, Distrito offers 2 bars and an upstairs lounge with swinging "porch" seats to sip your "spectacular" drinks.
Delivery
It is getting out of control in Philadelphia! What happened to pizza and Chinese? College students used to be forced to live on soup or "a slice." Just when generation "X" moves out of the city to the burbs, the best restaurants in Philadelphia start delivering!
Fun Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Distrito is virtually unmatched in terms of "fun" in Philadelphia. You must see it to believe it.
Happy Hour
If you are looking for a "fun," friendly place to go for happy hour in West Philadelphia, look no further. Distrito at 40th and Chestnut Streets offers a wonderful menu at their first floor bar and tequila lounge.
Lunch
One of the best options for lunch when you are looking for top notch cuisine in a light-hearted atmosphere. The price is right, too!
Lunch Casual
The "Blue Demon Express" menu offered at Distrito is a really "great deal." $15 buys a two-course meal and a soft drink and off you go back to work or class. It's affordable, and allows those who otherwise might not, to enjoy some of the "delicious" Mexican cuisine at a reasonable price. The lunch menu is also available ala carte.
Lunch Value
The "Blue Demon Express" menu offered at Distrito, the "enormous" Mexican restaurant owned by famed chef Jose Garces in West Philadelphia, is a really "great deal." $15 buys a two course meal and a soft drink and off you go back to work or class.
New
Opened in 2008, Distrito was one of the most anticipated openings ever in this West Philadelphia neighborhood.
Private Rooms
Distrito has become a destination. Jose Garces opened Distrito and it has established itself as a highly respected culinary giant in the city.
Small Plates
Mexican small plates at their very best! Order many things and share with your entire group.
Steak
The intensity of flavor in the queso fundido with duck is such that the "small plate" concept does not do it justice, so if dining with more than two people, there may be a reorder required. Ceviches of tuna, lobster, octopus and shrimp are so fresh and flavors so "thrilling," they leave you wanting "one more bite."
Teen Appeal
One of the coolest places any teenager could imagine eating would be Distrito. There is so much to look at and talk about here.
Trendy
The new hot spot in University City, Distrito has (hopefully) started a restaurant renaissance in West Philly. Two of the trendiest restaurants in the city, before the opening of Distrito last summer, belonged to Jose Garces. It would only stand to reason that he would draw a "cool" crowd from this end of the city as well.
Young Crowd
With its location in University City, it is no wonder that it draws lots of students from Penn and Drexel.
